FALMOUTH – With college scouts on hand, junior southpaw Will Crowther picked his game up a notch and paced the Sandwich Blue Knights to a hard-fought, 3-1 victory over the Falmouth Clippers Wednesday evening at Elmer “Guv” Fuller Field.
Crowther went the distance on the mound for the Blue Knights, scattering five hits and allowing one run in the first inning and not another the rest of the way. He struck out four and walked four.
“He really dug deep,” Sandwich first-year head coach Brian Tomasini said. “He battled all game and it was a gutsy performance.”
Deadlocked 1-1 heading into the seventh inning, with Falmouth senior southpaw Nick Perito matching Crowther vitually inning by inning in terms of efficiency, Sandwich plated two runs in the top of the frame, one via a passed ball and one via a fielder’s choice en route to the 3-1 finale.
The Blue Knight’s Cam Yadisernia went 2-3 with a run scored. Matt Dahl also hit well for the Blue Knights and Perito helped himself out at the plate as well.
The victory keeps Sandwich in the hunt for a postseason berth but the loss for the host Clippers made its bid for a continuation beyond the regular season that much more difficult if not mathematically impossible. The Clippers dropped to 4-11 on the season and Sandwich climbed to 6-7.
The Blue Knights next face Nantucket at home on Monday (May 18) at 4:00 pm and Falmouth heads to Eldredge Park in Orleans Friday to face the host Nauset Warriors at 4:30 pm.
