OSTERVILLE — Seeking just one more win to qualify for the postseason, the Cape Cod Academy boys’ basketball team (9-9) watched a fourth quarter lead evaporate Monday night in a 72-68 loss to the visiting Sturgis East Storm (7-10).
The Storm rattled off an astonishing 28 fourth-quarter points in a comeback victory highlighted by some pretty intense outside shooting.
Sturgis East’s Sawyer Gibbons scored 20 points last night against Cape Cod Academy to help the Storm keep its postseason hopes alive.

Sturgis East’s 1,000-point-plus career man Jake Tobey dumped in a game-high 32 points, 21 of which came from beyond the arc with seven three-pointers. All combined, East rained down 13 three-pointers. Sawyer Gibbons had a pair of those for East and tallied 20 total points, while Hunter Woodbury buriend three and had 11 points on the night.
The Seahawks’s Henry Zezze turned in a phenomenal double-double performance with 20 points and 27 rebounds while fellow senior co-captain Johnny Hatem had 16 points. Aaron white and Jack Massari turned in 15 and 12 points, respectively.
The Seahawks carried a 19-18 lead from the first quarter into the second frame and built on that slim margin for a 30-26 halftime advantage.
After three quarters, it was 49-44, with the Academy still ahead.
But in the fourth frame, Tobey dumped in 12 points and Gibbons had 10 as the guests outscored the Seahawks, 28-19.
Cape Cod Academy has a pair of games left against Nantucket Tuesday and Holbrook Wednesday to try and pull out a postseason opportunity.
East still may have a chance if it can win the rest of its games this week.
