Senior forward Kaia Whiteley led all scorers with 13 points and scored nine of her 13 points in the fourth quarter as head coach Mike Tierney penciled in a different starting lineup and shifted things around to get his girls ready for what could very well be a long tournament stretch in a few weeks.

Sophomore point guard Jess Tierney added eight points while teammates Maddie Doyle, Anna Widdinson, Lexi Caron and Amanda Gould added six, two, one and four points, respectively.

Cape Tech’s Samantha Lawton and Acaysia Rose each led the Crusaders with six points apiece.

The Lady Lions jumped out to a 21-8 lead and went up 28-8 in the second quarter but did not allow the Crusaders a single bucket in the second frame. The Crusaders outscored the Lions, 6-4 in the third quarter but then the Lions took care of business in the final frame with a 20-9 spread.

St. John Paul II will face Sturgis East today at 2:30 pm at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center in Hyannis.

“We hope to make that three in a row,” coach Tierney said.
