The Unbeaten: Falmouth Academy Laxwomen Rock On; St. John Paul II Tennis Boys Remain Stellar

FALMOUTH – Falmouth Academy’s Addy Hayman scored both her team’s first and final goals, as well as four goals in between, as the Mariners defeated the tough St. John Paul II Lady Lions, 18-7 in a Cape & Islands League contest Thursday afternoon.

Falmouth Academy is 7-0 this season and averaging more than 15 goals per game.

Hayman finished with six goals and tacked on four assists for a phenomenal 10 points, while teammate Jane Earley, a freshman, netted five goals and tacked on two assists as the duo accounted for more than 60 percent of the Mariners’ offense.

Christie Brake threw in a hat trick for good measure, Charlotte Van Voorhis scored two and Eliza Van Voorhis and Hannah Ginsberg each had one.

Kenzie Rogers recorded nine saves in goal for the unbeaten Mariners.

Casey Sullivan and Mikenzie Carbone each netted hat tricks for the Lady Lions, while Olivia Bengston notched one marker. Sophomore Jess Tierney had three assists and Sullivan added two more for a total of five points on the day.

St. John Paul II Tennis Boys Sting Bishop Stang

The undefeated St. John Paul II boys’ tennis team remained as such on Thursday afternoon, as the Lions followed the lead of number one singles player Cooper Tomchik on the way to a 5-0 victory over Bishop Stang.

Tomchik defeated Stang’s Marc Rice, 6-1, 6-0, followed by Oliver Dyche at number two singles who took down Liam Kidd, 6-0, 6-0. St. John Paul II’s Jonathan Logie won his match with Greg Lucarelli, 6-2, 6-1.

In number one doubles pair-ups, Andrew Logie and Bill Hufnagle defeated Bishop Stang’s Nick Souza and Alex Stowe, 6-1, 6-1, and Mike Logie and Tom Rezendes finished things up nicely with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Ben Costa and Austin Reiff.

“They played beautifully,” said St. John Paul II girls’ tennis head coach Katie Dombrowski who filled in Thursday at the Lions’ helm.

The St. John Paul II Lions take on the Mashpee Falcons in a non-league contest today at 4:00 pm in Hyannis.
