CHATHAM – A rescue team from the International Fund For Animal Welfare responded to a stranded pilot whale off the Chatham coast Monday morning.
IFAW spokesperson Shawna Moos said the 17 foot whale was on a sand bar about 50 yards off Hardings Beach.
It was already dead when crews arrived on scene.
IFAW planned on towing the whale to a facility in Woods Hole to create a necropsy.
Moos said they were notified about the stranding from a call to their stranding hotline.
