WOODS HOLE – The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution’s Ocean Science Exhibit Center opened this week for the season.

The center features hands-on exhibits which allow visitors to learn about WHOI’s research and the tools needed for their work.

A full-sized model of the Alvin personnel sphere, featuring control panels and other technology the craft has used over the years, will be on display.

The REMUS SharkCam, used to track great white sharks off of Chatham and Mexico and which still bears the bite marks it received while south of the border, will also be available for viewing.

Other exhibits include a Titanic room and a display detailing hydrothermal vents in the Pacific Ocean.

The center also contains a gift shop which contains WHOI-branded gear and marine-related books and gifts.

The center hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. until Memorial Day, when Saturday it will be open an extra day, Saturday, for the same time frame. It is located at 15 School Street in Woods Hole.
