Updated: Small plane lands hard at Chatham Municipal Airport

CHATHAM – A small plane reportedly “landed hard” at the Chatham Municipal Airport shortly after 10:30 AM Friday. Initial reports say the aircraft lost power as it was trying to land. The occupants were able to self-extricate from the aircraft. Two people were evaluated by EMTs and transported to Cape Cod Hospital. Firefighters mitigated a small fuel spill.

From Chatham Fire-Rescue: On Friday August 14th at approximately 10:30 AM the Chatham Fire Department was dispatched to the Chatham Airport for a reported plane crash. A full department recall was initiated along with crews from Headquarters.

Upon arrival, Chatham Fire personnel found a 17ft Zenith plane upright on the runway with significant damage to the bottom of the plane as well as the propeller. The two occupants of the plane had self-extricated the plane and sustained non-life threatening injuries. Both were transported to Cape Cod Hospital by the Chatham Fire Department.

Fuel was secured to the plane then containment pools and speedy dry were deployed to gather the remaining fuel that was leaking. There were no further hazards and no other planes or civilians were involved.
