CHATHAM – From Chatham Police: Chatham’s own Animal Control Officer, Diane Byers, again goes above and beyond to show her commitment to the community. Recently, the Chatham Police Department took an abandoned puppy “Ozzy” into our care. On and off duty ACO Byers has taken it upon herself to coordinate veterinary care, arrange appointments, provide shelter, and advocate for the dog’s well-being. She has continued these efforts while arranging to place Ozzy in a safe and suitable home. ACO Byers did this because she cares and believes that Ozzy deserves a second chance.
When it was determined that Ozzy needed surgery on his leg, a Cape Cod Veterinarian, Dr. Kevin Smith and his team at VCA Hyannis Animal Hospital (West Yarmouth) who has consistently supported the Cape Cod Law Enforcement Community stepped up and provided the necessary care. Dr. Smiths generosity is another great example of the partnerships that we are grateful to have within the Cape Cod Community.
The Chatham Police Department would like to thank ACO Diane Byers and Dr. Kevin Smith for their compassion and dedication. This is what public service is all about, going above and beyond when someone or a great puppy named Ozzy needs you!
