Chatham Police and Fire stations opened as cooling centers after A/C fails at Community Center

CHATHAMFrom the Town of Chatham: With the closure of the Community Center due to a breakdown of the air conditioning system and high heat and humidity forecasted throughout the weekend, anyone needing a place to cool down may go to the Chatham Police Station, 249 George Ryder Road, or the Chatham Fire Station, 135 Depot Road.

To keep you and your family and friends cool and safe during this stretch wear lightweight, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing. Drink plenty of water, even if you aren’t thirsty. Stay indoors as much possible and limit exposure to the sun. If you must be outdoors, limit your activity to the morning and evening hours and take frequent breaks.

And don’t forget your pets! Do not leave them outside for extended periods of time and NEVER leave them alone in a closed vehicle. Even with windows cracked open, interior temperatures can rise 20⁰ within 10 minutes.
