From time to time I am asked by people if I ever talk about politics on the radio…especially since we’re in an election year.
My answer is always NO!
Why? Because first of all I am not a “talk radio” host. If I was a “talk radio” host I would most definitely “talk politics” on the radio…but my station “999 The Q” is a music station. Although, my partner Ralphie and I do talk quite a bit about various things…it’s not about politics.
Of course, we will remind people of a possible debate that may be airing that night and we will touch on it the next morning especially if there were some unusual shenanigans that occurred…but we will never talk about our personal political views.
That is a sure way to get a lot of people to turn on you. The funny thing is…it really is just the opposite on “talk radio”. You are supposed to take a stance and push people buttons on talk radio. Well, we do push people’s buttons in many ways…but it’s not in regards to politics.
We want people to come to our morning show primarily for great music, witty banter, and fun! Don’t get me wrong I share a lot of very personal things about my life on the radio. I have recently had a lot of losses in my life and I was open about how much I was hurting…to the point where so many wonderful people sent me cards and even came to the radio station to give me a hug or two!
Even though I don’t “talk politics” on the air…doesn’t mean the show isn’t compelling!
