Aging Clubhouse at Woods Hole Golf Club to be Demolished

GolfClubBallWOODS HOLE – The 94-year-old clubhouse at the Woods Hole Golf Club is being demolished to make way for a new and improved facility at its current location.

The Falmouth Planning Board approved plans last week which include a number of site improvements.

Those improvements include new fire hydrants, increased lighting along the clubhouse driveway and improved access for emergency response vehicles.

“The purpose of these renovations is really to provide a better clubhouse for the current membership,” said Robert Ament, the club’s attorney. “The intention is not to expand the membership or to change the use of the property.”

The existing clubhouse was built in 1921, but the facility’s air conditioning, plumbing and electrical systems are out of date, he said.

The club spent around $2 million on renovations to the building 10 years ago in an effort to preserve the structure.

“This is a good time to build a new facility for the next hundred years and that’s what the golf club proposes to do,” said Ament.
