EASTHAM – A District of Critical Planning Concern in Eastham has been approved by the Barnstable County Assembly of Delegates.

The designation is a planning tool available through the Cape Cod Commission Act which allows for a temporary moratorium on development activity to allow communities to put new regulations in place.

The district encompasses 280 acres in North Eastham bounded on the north by the Eastham/Wellfleet town line; to the south by Old Orchard Road, to the east by the Cape Cod Rail Trail; and to the west by Herring Brook Road and Massasoit Road.

The designation was approved under three provisions of the DCPC regulations, including Economic or Development Resource District, Affordable Housing Resource District and a Transportation Management District.

The Cape Cod Commission, which approved the district in October, found the area possesses significant natural and economic resources, or value of regional, statewide or national significance.

The full decision and related files are available at www.capecodcommission.org/projects.
