Nantucket Cottage Hospital Confirms Nine Positive Virus Cases

NANTUCKET – Nine positive COVID-19 cases have been confirmed on Nantucket by Nantucket Cottage Hospital as of Thursday afternoon. In response, the hospital is urging residents to continue to stay home and adhere to all social distancing measures in order to protect others.

The hospital is aware of presumed positive family members and social contacts of most of the confirmed positive cases on the island. Those residents are quarantined, although they are not counted in the total number of confirmed cases.

All family members of a coronavirus patient are required to stay quarantined together for two weeks after they are exposed and to follow guidelines to prevent a further spread of the virus.

Contacts of positive patients are being instructed by the hospital to look after their symptoms and reach out to their primary care providers if they experience any respiratory symptoms.

Those who receive negative test results are still encouraged to maintain isolation. The hospital is testing some residents if a COVID-19 diagnosis is still suspected, in order to overrule any potential false negative results.
