Nantucket Cottage Hospital Urges Vigilance With COVID-19 Precautions

NANTUCKET- Nantucket Cottage Hospital President and CEO Gary Shaw is urging island residents to continue practicing social distancing and other safety measures as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

While he said he is proud of how the island has reacted to prevent the spread so far, he said it only takes one person to put people in danger.

Shaw urged everyone to do their part to limit COVID-19’s impact as statewide infection and fatality numbers continue to rise.

NCH, along with Martha’s Vineyard Hospital, is continuing to urge those who do not live on the islands full-time to stay home in order to keep island residents safe and local hospitals properly prepared for the pandemic going forward.

Resources at the hospitals are not expansive enough to handle a rapid increase in population.

Shaw said Nantucket Cottage Hospital is continuing to prepare for a potential surge of cases on the island, and that he is thankful that residents are continuing to work to protect themselves and fellow islanders.
