New rules intended to make moped riding safer on Martha’s Vineyard

Martha’s Vineyard

OAK BLUFFS – New restrictions have been passed in Oak Bluffs covering moped rentals.

At a special town meeting last week, voters approved changes which include banning passengers, renting only to people with drivers’ licenses, and reducing the number of moped rental licenses.

There have been a number of high-profile moped accidents on Martha’s Vineyard over the years, leading to public outcry for more safety measures.

One person was killed in a collision in Oak Bluffs between a moped and a car last summer.
