HYANNIS – The state has updated vaccine payment rates to align with revised Medicare rates as well as authorized additional individuals to administer the COVID-19 vaccine in the Commonwealth.
Beginning April 1, MassHealth rate of payment for vaccine administration will be $45.87, which aligns with revised Medicare rates for the Boston region, said state officials.
Commercial insurers must pay at least the MassHealth rate, if not more, for COVID-19 vaccines.
State officials said that by aligning with the federal rate and adopting the flat per-shot rate structure, all payers will pay a total of $91.74 for the two-shot Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, and $45.87 for the one-shot Johnson & Johnson dose.
The state also announced more individuals who will be able to administer the COVID-19 vaccine in order to increase vaccine accessibility across the region.
Individuals who can now administer the vaccine in the Commonwealth include podiatrists, phlebotomists, medical assistants who otherwise do not meet the requirements to administer vaccine per DPH guidance and Designated Massachusetts Military Division vaccinators or those certified by the United States Army as Combat Lifesavers.
