CHATHAM – A 7-foot great white shark that had stranded off South Beach in Chatham was pulled back into the water Monday afternoon.

According to the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, the Chatham harbormaster’s office and Dr. Greg Skomal with the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries were able to tie a rope to the shark.

It was beached inside the South Beach cut and eventually towed back into the open ocean.

The first great white shark of the season was tagged earlier this month off Chatham.

Last year, 68 great whites were tagged in the area of Orleans, Chatham and Monomoy.
