NEW BEDFORD – The Barnstable High School wrestling team chalked up a decisive victory Monday afternoon, defeating the host New Bedford Whalers, 53-21.
The Red Raiders are now 6-3 on the season.
Defending Division 1 South Sectional champion Owen Murray remained undefeated on the season when he took his match by pin in the 285-lb. division and an entire host of Red Raiders followed suit.
Junior Casey Connor picked up Barnstable’s first win on the day wrestling in the 126-lb. bracket, winning by pin, followed by John Goode at 132 pounds who also won by pin.
138-lb. Vinny Ciliberto took home a victory by pin as well.
Senior co-captain Charlie McWilliams won by technical fall in the 152-lb. class, followed by a win from 182-pounder Alex Lopes by pin.
Senior co-captain Donnie Mach also picked up a key win by pin in the 220-lb. division.
Barnstable’s Joe Ciliberto took a loss by pin in the 106-lb. division, as did Ben Potts in the 145-lb. division. Mike Bertucci also took a loss by pin in the 185-lb. division.
Barnstable’s Mike Stanley won by forfeit (113) as did Lou Cocozza (160) and sophomore Kyle White (120).
