Storm team coverage: Tornado touchdown-roof blown off Yarmouth hotel, trees down everywhere, 50,000 in dark

CAPE COD  – A confirmed tornado touched down from Yarmouth east to Harwich. Continuing updates here:

A tree fell on a house in Bourne sometime after 9 AM Tuesday morning. It was unclear how much damage was done to the residence on Evergreen Hill Road but firefighters were called because power lines were brought down to make sure there was not a fire in the home.

At 11:38 AM a 58 MPH wind gust was reported in Mashpee.

Skywarn reported at 1140 AM: Mashpee, MA: Starboard Lane – Tree and Wires down, Wires down on Donna Lane, Great Oak Road – Tree down – road blocked

At 1202 PM EDT, a confirmed tornado was located over Yarmouth, or 8 miles east of Barnstable, moving northeast at 35 mph.

90 MPH wind gust reported at Kalmus Beach in Hyannis.

Eversource reports 4,800 customers without power in Harwich, 3,500 in Mashpee, 1,200 in Yarmouth

Bourne Fire posted: Firefighters currently responding to numerous flooded homes. Firefighters also on location at Windsor Road in Cataumet for a Snapped Utility pole with wires down. Also be advised numerous roads in town remain impassible due to flooding use caution. Shore Road in front of Kingmans Marina impassible due to disabled vehicle in flooded roadway.

Multiple utility poles reported down in Dennis.

Extensive power outages from Mashpee to Eastham totaling about 25,000. 8,000 of those are in Harwich.

2 PM update: Harwich, Hyannis Port, Yarmouth, Dennis and Mashpee all reproting tree damage to houses. We will monitor for any shelters that may open.

2:45 PM update: Some serious crashes have been reported (see separate articles). Please stay off the roads unless it is an emergency to allow emergency officials to work. Many secondary roads are impassable. Also always assume downed wires are live! Some photos from Yarmouth DNR above of capsized and damaged boats above.

3:30 PM update: About 50,000 without power. This includes 13,374 of those are in Dennis, 8,600 in Yarmouth, 10,500 in Harwich, and 8,000 in Chatham. We reported on 90 MPH wind gust at Kalmus Beach. Additional reports of 82 MPH in Chatham and 77 MPH in West Dennis. Eversource posted the above photo of a utility pole impaling a pickup truck.
