Who doesn’t love to watch a movie set on Cape Cod? It might surprise you to find out that the quintessential Cape Cod movie, Summer Catch, wasn’t even filmed on the Cape. Due to filming during winter, South Carolina became Cape Cod for the movie. Below are a list of movies that feature actual locations on the Cape and Islands. Enjoy spotting familiar places or discovering new ones while watching these films.
One Crazy Summer – 1986 – Charming romantic comedy starring John Cusack and Demi Moore. It was filmed on both Cape Cod and Nantucket. The crews actually took over Hyannis West Elementary School for one scene, and many locals became extras in the film.
Rip Van Winkle – 1903 – This black and white silent film was shot on location in Buzzards Bay. The plot features a man who drinks a strange brew and wakes up to find 20 years have passed.
Jaws –1975 – This classic’s filming locations include Falmouth and Martha’s Vineyard.
Sabrina -1995-The daughter of a chauffeur falls in love with a wealthy playboy. The movie, starring Harrison Ford, was filmed on Martha’s Vineyard.
The Lightkeepers – 2009 – This movie has several scenes filmed in Chatham and Provincetown. It follows the story of two men who have sworn off women until a few move in nearby.
That’s My Boy – 2012 – Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg’s father/son comedy was filmed mostly around Dennis.
Stuck on You – 2003 – Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear play conjoined twins from Martha’s Vineyards. Filming locations include the Vineyard and aerial shots of Cape Cod.
Year by the Sea – 2016 – This film follows an empty nester who retreats to Cape Cod to rediscover herself. It was filmed in Eastham, Chatham, Wellfleet, Orleans, and Brewster
The Golden Boys – 2008 – Bruce Dern, David Carradine, and Rip Torn play 3 retired sea captain. The film is set in 1905, with sections filmed in Barnstable.
To Gillian on her 37th Birthday – 1996 – The movie features Michelle Pfeiffer and Claire Danes filming locations include the Hyline Ferry and Martha’s Vineyard.
