Hello, My Name Is: Tracy Post

Welcome to our new feature, “Hello My Name Is…”. I hope you are enjoying the chance to spend some time getting to know people in our community. As you know, the best way to learn about someone is to ask questions. In this series we ask ten questions to different individuals so that we can know the folks who live with us here on Cape Cod.

Tracy Post

Hello, My Name Is Tracy Post

Occupation: Yarmouth Selectmen &  Administrative Assistant at Robert B Our Co.

What was your first paying job?

I started off babysitting and delivering newspapers for the Cape Cod Times. At the age of 14 I started to work busing tables at Shirdan’s Country Kitchen and then at the age of 16 I waitressed there through high school and into college.

When was the last time you laughed really hard?

Last week at work the office it suddenly started to smell very bad {if you know what I mean}. Everyone trying to place blame on everyone else and each person quickly trying to justify themselves. After this went on for a few minutes we looked out the window and they were pumping the septic. We all had a good laugh.

Did you grow up on the Cape?

I grew up in Yarmouth. I attended ME Small Elementary School, Mattacheese Middle School, Cape Cod Tech, and attended Cape Cod Community College. Yarmouth is where my heart has always been. Being married to someone in the Army took me away from the Cape for many years, but I was happy to move back here in time to raise our son. Having had the opportunity to travel away from here for those years helped me to appreciate Cape Cod even more than I had originally.

Where is your ‘go-to’ spot for a cup of chowder?

This is so hard to answer publicly because I try to support all of the businesses in Yarmouth! Top three to me at The Skipper, Captain Parker’s, and the Riverway. In the past 6 month I have become gluten free so sadly my Chowder days are over. (wah wah wahhhhh).

Do you have a favorite non-profit group here on the Cape?

All of our Non profits on the Cape do amazing work! Although I don’t have a lot of money to donate I do try to attend many events and support organizations. Being a wife of a Retired Army Veteran – and a mother of an Army National Guardsman – Veteran organizations are close to my heart and sadly extremely needed to support all of our Veterans. A great Cape Cod non profit group that does that is “Cape Cod Cares for the Troops”.

What is the one thing you love to do that surprises people the most?

Ride a motorcycle. I spent years on the back of a bike riding with my husband, but last year I got my own motorcycle license and motorcycle. It’s so much fun!

In a parallel universe, what would you be doing?

Life is too short not to do what you love every day. The day I am not happy doing what I do is the day I change it! If I were super rich though I would spend a little more time traveling and volunteering more. If you haven’t read the poem “The Dash” please read it. That’s what life is all about. I’d just like to have to time to make my dash more impactful.

What person had the greatest influence on you and why?

Every person I surround myself with has helped to influence me. You can learn something from everyone – good or bad. The most influential person to me has been my son. His existence makes me want to be the best version of me I can be. I always want be a positive role model to him and someone he is proud of.

If I looked in your refrigerator right now, what would I see?

Well, my husband never allows food in the crisper drawer. That, in our house, is known as the beer drawer. I don’t drink beer so that’s his section of the fridge. I drink red wine – that doesn’t require refrigeration or I’d probably require my own shelf. We are readjusting to be empty nesters at this point so I still buy stuff like a gallon of milk that we used to go through quickly and now it sadly sits there until its bad. I’m learning to shop for just two. I need to do a better job as to not be wasteful. (Just typing the answer that we are empty nesters made me sad). Currently you will only find a few basic items such as eggs, cheese, yogurts, and condiments.

If you could go out on a boat fishing for a day, who would you bring?

I love to fish! I’d definitely would want to bring my son and husband, but my husband doesn’t swim so the boat would have to be big enough for him to safely feel like he would NOT end up in the water for any reason. I have so much fun with ALL of my family and friends that in a perfect world I would take them ALL with me. Although that would just turn into a huge competition as to who would catch the biggest fish and if anyone knows me knows I’m pretty competitive so I would work very hard to win that!

We are always looking for new people to feature in “Hello, My Name Is…”. If you know an interesting member of the Cape community, please send us their name:[email protected]. When possible, please include their contact information and a little about them.

Thank you!
