Arts Foundation and Cooperative Bank Award Art Scholarships

collegeBARNSTABLE – The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod and the Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod have teamed up to support local art students.

The third annual Positively Different Arts Foundation Scholarship Program awarded $1,000 to each of five local students pursuing undergraduate studies in arts-related fields.

The winners of this year’s scholarships include Kaylee Wallace, a Nauset Regional High School graduate who will attend Brandeis University to study music and business; Meghan Welchman, a Monomoy Regional High School graduate who studies ballet; and Alexandra Axon, a Falmouth High School graduate who will go to Trinity College to study English.

Bourne High School graduate Grace Kennedy received the theatre scholarship and will study at Pace University; and the visual arts scholarship was awarded to Sander Goldman of Brewster, who graduated from Sturgis Charter Public High School and will attend the Rhode Island School of Design to pursue a degree in illustration.

“We’re proud to partner with worthy organizations across the Cape to create opportunities for Cape Codders that are truly positively different,” said Joel Crowell, President and CEO of the Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod. “In a time when it’s more expensive that ever to attend college, we’re happy that over the last three years we’ve been able to assist 15 local high school seniors in pursuing degrees in the arts.”

Scholarship applications were accepted from students who were graduating from a public or private school or a home education program living on Cape Cod and were accepted into a degree program at an accredited college or university.

The selections were based on the quality of the submissions, excellence of the work and academic achievement.

“The excellence of the applications we received underscores the tremendous talent and discipline of the students that reflects the quality of the schools that were represented,” said David Kaplan, Executive Director of the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod.
