Chatham Extends Due Dates for Tax Bills

CHATHAM – Chatham selectmen have extended the due date of water, sewer, excise, and property tax bills scheduled for payment on or after March 10.

Real estate and personal property tax bills are now due June 1, 2020 and water, sewer, and excise taxes are now due on June 30, 2020.

This extended date and waiver of fees and interest associated with the action applies to the following bills issued by the town of Chatham:

Second half real estate tax bills issued March 23, originally due May 1.

Personal property tax bills issued March 23, originally due May 1.

Motor vehicle excise tax bills issued February 10, originally due March 11.

Motor vehicle excise tax demands issued March 31, originally due April 14.

Motor vehicle excise tax bills issued April 8, originally due May 8.

Water and sewer bills issued March 3, originally due April 2.

Water and sewer bills issued April 8, originally due May 8.

The Treasurer/Tax Collector’s office is encouraging the public to utilize online payment options and submissions by mail.

Cash payments are not being accepted at this time to reduce the exposure between town staff and the public.

The town is also encouraging the public to review resources available to community members and businesses listed on the town’s COVID-19 dedicated webpage and to proactively reach out to the Treasurer/Tax Collector’s Office to discuss implementing a payment plan.

Town officials are urging residents to limit exposure to others, maintain six feet of social distancing when outside, perform frequent hand washing, practice proper respiratory etiquette, and wear a dace covering when in public to limit the spread of the virus.

Any person who is experiencing symptoms such as a fever, and cough or difficulty breathing is encouraged to self-isolate and call a healthcare provider for medical advice.

High risk individuals, including older adults, those with underlying medical conditions, are urged to avoid others at all times.
