Four Cape Cod Towns Receive Coastal Management Grant

BARNSTABLE – The towns of Provincetown, Truro, Wellfleet, and Eastham have received a grant of $115,000 from the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management.

The grant comes via the FY20 Coastal Resilience Grant program, which aims to develop a cross-town shoreline protection plan among the four bay-side towns.

The plan is to assess the 35 miles of shoreline without issues with boundaries, jurisdictions, or regulations that may vary from town to town.

Some topics of assessment include monitoring human use and alterations along the shore, natural resources, and how resilient the shore is in the face of erosion.

Regulations within each town will also be examined, alongside the individual towns’ strengths and efforts in managing their part of the bay-side shore.

After any challenges are identified, recommendations will be made for a comprehensive shoreline management framework across the four towns.
