FALMOUTH – Shortly after 12:30 a.m., Falmouth PD called Falmouth Fire Rescue to a truck vs pole crash in front of the Green Pond Yacht Club near the intersection of Acapesket Road and Menauhant Road. A Nissan Titan pickup was found to have struck a utility pole severing the pole completely and ending up on top of the side of a Marina boat ramp. The occupants were out of the truck prior to the arrival of Fire Rescue and were quickly determined to be miraculously uninjured.
The pole damage caused a large power outage in the East Falmouth of nearly 6000 Eversource customers and caused a transformer fire as far away as Teaticket Highway (Route 28). Eversource crews were on scene to replace the pole while Falmouth PD were investigating the cause of the crash.
Meanwhile, Dennis Police are also investigating a car vs pole crash that happened a short time later on Pond Street at South Yarmouth Road. 67 Eversource customers lost power due to this crash. The car left the scene but was found a short time later. Police were searching for the driver. Eversource crews will also have to replace this pole.
