HYANNIS – Barnstable held its annual “Years of Service” award ceremony yesterday at Town Hall.
The ceremony recognized town workers who are reaching milestones in five-year increments.
That includes over 70 employees who have been with the town from 5 to 35 years and 20 who have retired.
Those workers include Marine and Environmental Affairs Administrative Assistant Debbie Lavoie who has been with the town for 20 years.
Lavoie said she is happy in her position with the Town of Barnstable.
“When you come here, they appreciate what you do,” said Lavoie. “You do something and you get a call back saying thank you very much, or you get an email.”
Officer Reed Hall, who is the school resources officer at Barnstable High School, was recognized for his 40 years of service to the town.
Retired Deputy Police Chief Craig Tamash was also honored at the event for his 40 years of service to the town.
Barnstable Town Manager Tom Lynch said the annual event is necessary.
“We try to have some fun at the event but we also want to impart the fact that we really are thanking them for having been here for so long,” said Lynch.
