Barnstable To Enforce Six Hour Parking Limit at Town Hall Parking Lot

parking lotBARNSTABLE – Starting next week, there will be a six hour maximum parking limit in the Barnstable Town Hall Parking Lot.

The town is also prohibiting overnight parking in the lot located behind the JFK Hyannis Museum. The six hour limit will be in effect starting on Tuesday.

The lot will be enforced by the town’s parking division and violators will be subject to fines and towing at the owner’s expense.

The decision to limit parking to six hours in the lot was made in consideration of visitors to Main Street, as the town found many of the visitors traveling by ferries to Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, were using the parking lot.

“Hopefully that will address the concerns that are going on out there,” said Barnstable Town Manager Mark Ells. “We’re showing up at 7, 8 or 9 o’clock when businesses open and the whole parking lot is full of people who have walked down and I think taken the boat.”

Ells said that there are other parking lots like the one near the American Red Cross location on South Street that will not be enforced and are often open.

“We thought that this is a reasonable approach to try to address that concern,” said Ells.

The six hour limit will be enforced year-round and Ells said that the town will work with nearby businesses to create a parking placard if necessary for employees.
