BARNSTABLE – A meeting on Thursday will focus on Barnstable’s first dog park.

After a number of years planning such a recreation space, the town has secured funds from the Stanton Foundation in Cambridge, Mass.

The same foundation has helped Mashpee, Yarmouth and Falmouth fund their dog parks, according to Barnstable special projects coordinator Len Gobeil.

“We applied for a grant and are eligible to receive approximately $200,000, which moved everything forward on this process,” he said.

The park will be located on Phinney’s Lane near Hathaway’s Pond.

Gobeil said that this should open up a great location for those seeking a place to walk, train and have meet and greets with their dogs.

He said that this is particularly useful for pet owners in the summertime, a season known for limited pet access on public beaches and similar spaces.

Thursday’s meeting will allow the public a closer look at building plans for the project and to ask questions about them.

It begins at 7 p.m. inside Barnstable Town Hall’s Hearing Room on the second floor.

Town Hall is located at 367 Main Street, Hyannis.
