Cape Museum Plans Butterfly House for Summer Visitors

459952943BREWSTER – Butterflies are creatures of great mystery and beauty and for centuries have fascinated the imagination of artists, philosophers, scientists and of course schoolchildren.

For those looking to get an up close glimpse and even feed an adult butterfly this summer, the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster has you covered.

The new butterfly house at the museum located at 869 Main Street will open up for the season on June 1st.

In the butterfly house, visitors can enjoy monarch and painted lady butterflies in a natural habitat, and also witness caterpillars go through the different states of a butterfly life cycle.

Butterflies aren’t just beautiful, they’re also important pollinators, not only for flowers, but for surrounding species of animal as well.

On the way to the butterfly house, visitors will also have the opportunity to walk through the pollinator path gardens to see the plants that attract butterflies, and may get the chance to see other creatures attracted to these plants including hummingbirds.

For those looking for an up close experience, visitors can get the chance to hold a juice-filled sponge, and actually have a butterfly feeding in the palm of their hand! Feeding times are 10, 12 and 2 Monday through Friday and reservations are required.
