HYANNIS – The Barnstable Marine and Environmental Affairs Department and the Hyannis Fire Department worked together to remove a hazard to navigation in Hyannis Harbor last week.

The MEA was notified by the Steamship Authority’s M/V Gay Head crew of a tow line tangled in the channel near the number five entrance buoy to the harbor.

The MEA did not have a crew available to deal with the hazard because staff was working to place channel markers in another part of town.

Harbormaster Dan Horn contacted the fire department to ask if they could respond.

Firefighters responded within minutes and removed the obstruction from the harbor.
