BOURNE – President Barack Obama and his family will arrive one day earlier than scheduled for their Martha’s Vineyard vacation.

A statement from the White House indicates the First Family will arrive at Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod Friday and then helicopter to the island. They were initially scheduled to arrive Saturday.

The Obamas are expected to stay on the Vineyard until August 23. The White House said there are no public events scheduled for the trip.

Obama vacationed on Martha’s Vineyard with his family in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014. He skipped his island vacation in 2012 when he was running for reelection.

Over the years, the President has rented three different properties in the up island town of Chilmark for his two-week vacation.

Rumors that Obama and his family were coming to the Vineyard again this year began over the winter when business leaders on the island said they had heard the news.
