Nantucket Police Tighten Rules on Parking Downtown

nantucket harborNANTUCKET – Nantucket has initiated a new policy regarding seemingly-abandoned cars in downtown parking spots.

Vehicles now parked in street spots longer than 96 hours, or in parking lots for over 7 days, will be considered “abandoned” and therefore subject to ticketing or, ultimately, towing.

Police say the goal is merely to free up spaces in the area for visitors and islanders alike, in response to long-running parking issues.

In the event of a towing, vehicle owners will be subject to tow and storage fees.
