Provincetown to Tackle Parking Issues During Upcoming Public Hearing

The study provided ideas including improved shuttle service between North Truro and Provincetown, a possible parking garage facility in town, as well as parking along Route 6.

However the latter would be costly and also shrink the highway from four lanes to two from Conwell Street to Shank Painter Road and Shank Painter to Province Lands.

“It’s (also) far from town, it’s where people don’t want to be. We think they may have to run shuttle service or provide a sidewalk or walkability to these parking spaces and it really does boost up the cost,” Cape Cod Commission Technical Services Director Glen Cannon said.

According to the 66-page study, the proposed parking facility could be located at Motta Field, or at Riley’s parking lot, and could be built in a manner that would be aesthetically pleasing to visitors and residents alike.

“They can blend into the community. They can be surrounded by retail shops and even apartments so they look more fitting into a community,” Cannon said.

The Provincetown Board of Selectmen will hold a traffic hearing on Tuesday, March 15th at Provincetown Town Hall to gather public input on the Commission’s findings and to gauge which parking solutions may be feasible moving forward.
