FALMOUTH – Members of the group “Falmouth Wants A Y” are gathering on March 26 to host a community information meeting to discuss plans to bring a YMCA to the town.
The group started three years ago and has met with community leaders to get feedback on what programs would be beneficial for residents.
Serena Lo Piccolo-Smith, the founder of the group, said YMCA programs like swimming are needed in the town.
“Right now the town of Falmouth does not have a pool where kids can learn how to swim,” she said. “We use the hotel pools sometimes, but they are not really adequate for the task.”
Lo Piccolo-Smith said the group is looking for more programs for teens than is provided by Falmouth High School.
“Even though the high school does a wonderful job engaging the teens, there is still a need for more.”
The group recently started a YMCA child care center in February at the North Falmouth Congregational Church.
The meeting will be held at the Falmouth Public Library on Main Street from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 26.
