Updated: Driver dies after single-vehicle Eastham crash

EASTHAMUpdate: Eastham Police report that the operator of the Honda Accord, identified as Edmund Burke Jr, 88, of Eastham was discovered unresponsive after the crash. Lifesaving efforts were performed and he was transported to Cape Cod Hospital by Eastham Fire and Rescue. He was later pronounced dead at Cape Cod Hospital. Preliminary indications are that Mr. Burke suffered a medical issue while driving. The passenger in the vehicle, identified as Weston Wilbur, 90, of Eastham was transported to Cape Cod Hospital by Orleans Fire and Rescue with injuries that appeared to not be life-threatening.

Previous story: Two serious injuries were reported in a crash in Eastham. The crash happened just after 7 PM on Route 6A by The Knack restaurant just off the rotary on the Orleans town line. A Honda Accord was off the road leaning at a precarious angle in some bushes against a stone boundary marker after apparently narrowly missing a utility pole.

Rescuers were reportedly performing CPR on one victim. Both victims were rushed to Cape Cod Hospital.

Route 6A was closed from the rotary to Route 28. Eastham Police and the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council crash reconstruction team is investigating the crash.
