Busy weekend for Barnstable Police Street Crimes Unit

cotelljonathanHYANNIS – It was a busy weekend for the Barnstable Street Crime Unit (SCU) with a total of five arrests Friday and Saturday. SCU members arrested Jonathan D. Cotell, 24, of Hyannis on Friday at 6:55 p.m. He was stopped on North Street in Hyannis for operating after suspension and other motor vehicle offenses. Cotell attempted to use a Massachusetts Driver’s License belonging to another person. He was also charged with using a false license. Cotell is very well know to area law enforcement and SCU. He was arrested in July of 2013 and later convicted in Barnstable District Court for possession of heroin.

melolouisaAlso on Saturday at 12:20 a.m., Luis A. Melo, 25, of Taunton was arrested by the SCU on Main Street, Hyannis for two outstanding default warrants for larceny of a MV and threat to commit a crime.

wallsbrianjOn Saturday at approximately 1:13 a.m., two adult males flagged down SCU Barnstable Officer Scott Wright on Ocean Street, Hyannis. They said that they were the victims of an unarmed robbery in which a subject grabbed money from one of their wallets and fled on foot. A suspect description was broadcast by BPD Dispatch. Barnstable PD K-9 Officer Sean Roycroft located a person matching the description on Main Street, Hyannis. He was identified as Brian J. Walls, 42, of Barnstable. The victims identified Walls as the person that robbed them. Walls is very well known to area law enforcement. He was convicted on November 18, 2013 in Barnstable District Court and sent to Barnstable House of Correction for 18 months for assault & battery.

houleseanc1On Sunday at approximately 1:20 a.m., Members of the SCU located a group of adult males creating a disturbance on Main Street in the area of Bassett Lane, Hyannis. An adult male from Sandwich, MA had been assaulted and was down on the sidewalk. He was bleeding from a head injury. Hyannis FD Rescue transported him to Cape Cod Hospital ER. SCU members were on scene attempting to investigate the assault when one  subject in the group became disorderly. He was identified as Sean C. Houle, 25, of Florida. Houle was placed under arrest for disorderly conduct. The assault is still under investigation and the motive is not known.

shoffrobertAlso on Sunday at approximately 1:28 a.m., SCU member Massachusetts State Police Sgt Dan McGinn observed a vehicle drive over the traffic island on Barnstable Road, strike a traffic sign and continue driving toward the airport rotary. McGinn stopped the vehicle on Route 132 in the area of the Cape Town Plaza. The operator, Robert Shoff, 30, of Marshfield, was arrested and charged with OUI/Alcohol and other motor vehicle violations.
