Cape Cod Residents Attend Civic Engagement Workshop

Presenter Stefanie Coxe

FALMOUTH – In an attempt to get more citizens involved with their local community, a civic engagement event was held on Tuesday night at Falmouth Library.

The free interactive workshop was conducted by Nexus Werx LLC and Engage Falmouth, and State Representatives Dylan Fernandes and David Vieira as well as Falmouth selectman Megan English Braga attended the event.

Fernandes believes that people need to be more involved in their community and government.

“That is what I hope is the takeaway, to give people the tools that they need to be effective advocates because we need effective advocacy more than ever,” said Fernandes.

Participants were taught how to build the confidence needed to engage with politicians and their staff, establish credibility and how to effectively convey their concerns and request actions.

Stefanie Coxe, the founder of Nexus Werx LLC, said she is happy to see people who want to get involved.

“Seeing how in the past few months, so many people are coming out of the woodwork who have either never engaged before, or who engaged in previous years but then sort of got disengaged, got frustrated with how politics works, this is such a great time to get involved,” said Coxe.
