Delegate Proposes Expanding County Commission From 3 to 5

BARNSTABLE – A member of the Barnstable County Assembly of Delegates has proposed expanding the County Commission from three members to five.

Chatham Delegate Ronald Bergstrom proposes restructuring the board to five Commissioners elected from five districts of Cape Cod, instead of the current three commissioners elected at-large, county-wide.

The proposal comes as officials review the structure of county government. Two reports on the matter have been commissioned by the county and members of the public have provided their feedback on a possible restructuring.

Under the plan, the structure of the Assembly of Delegates would remain unchanged. The proposal also calls for a “so-called strong County Administrator” to manage county business on a day-today basis.
