Edgartown Police Ask Public to Use Caution after Assault at Manuel Correllus State Forest

PoliceMARTHA’S VINEYARD – Edgartown Police are asking that people use caution while visiting the Manuel Correllus State Forest after a 58-year-old woman was assaulted yesterday while walking her dogs.

Oak Bluffs and Edgartown Police were dispatched to the area of the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School around 3:40 p.m. for a report of a female who had been sexually assaulted.

The woman reported that the incident had taken place while she was on the Dr. Fisher Road Ancient Trail around 2:30 p.m.

According to police, the woman said that she was sexually assaulted at knife point by an unknown man.

The woman described the man as being in his late 20s early 30s, muscular build, light brown sandy colored hair, unkempt over ears and curly in back, scruffy facial hair, wearing old faded light blue jeans with some holes in the thighs, dark colored‘pocket T-shirt, light blue or green button down chambray shirt over the T-shirt, and tan work boots.

She also noted that the suspect had a gold stud piercing in his left ear, a silver bracelet on his left wrist, and a small tattoo on the thumb webbing of his right hand, a round nickel size circle with letter in middle.

Police believe that this is an isolated incident but are recommending that people use caution and that those who frequent the State Forest do so in pair or groups.
