Wareham Man Convicted in 2012 Killing of New Bedford Man

GavelFALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) — A Wareham man has been convicted in the 2012 killing of a New Bedford man.

Twenty-three-year-old Darius Gamboa was found guilty Friday by a Fall River Superior Court jury of first-degree murder, carrying an illegal firearm and related charges. The jury deliberated for about nine hours.

A judge sentenced Gamboa to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Prosecutors say Gamboa shot and killed 31-year-old Julio Barbosa outside a 7-11 convenience store July 6, 2012, in New Bedford.

Gamboa’s father, 42-year-old Ryan Gamboa, is also charged in the slaying. He’s scheduled to stand trial next week.

Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn called Barbosa’s killing a “senseless homicide.”
