HYANNIS — With Barnstable ahead 37-35 and regulation time almost gone, Sandwich High’s Molly Silvestri sank a bucket to tie it up and sent last night’s game into overtime.
In the end, the visiting Blue Knights prevailed, defeating the hard-luck Red Raiders, 46-43.

Barnstable’s Mia Crawley (5) poured in 18 points last night, seen here driving the lane versus Sandwich High’s Caroline Wilson, but the Blue Knights prevailed in overtime, 46-43.

It was Barnstable’s 8th straight loss, leaving the Red Raiders at 4-11 on the season while Sandwich climbs to 4-10.
Red Raider junior forward Mia Crawley — who was held scoreless by Sandwich in the 1st quarter — led all scorers with a game-high 18 points, 13 of which came in a stellar 4th quarter and overtime frame.
Silvestri led the Blue Knights with 15 points and Carly Whittle had 14 points, including a pair of downtown three-pointers.
Barnstable’s tale of woe, however, came at the free throw line as the Red & White girls went 5-15 from the charity stripe. Sandwich went 15-24 from the line.
“It could have gone either way,” Barnstable head coach Vanessa Cedrone said. “This was Crawley’s first big game in a while, so it’s good she came out of her little funk tonight.”
The Blue Knights led after the first quarter, 9-7, but the host Red Raiders outscored the guests 11-7 in the second quarter to take an 18-16 hafltime lead, and gave fans a reason to believe things could get interesting at the very least. In a cut-throat, scratch and claw third quarter, Sandwich flipped its fate with a 28-25 advantage even as Crawley began to heat up with her first bucket of the night.
By the fourth quarter, with Sandwich ahead 28-25, all bets were off as Crawley controlled the paint and Barnstable senior captain Margot Rice (6 pts.) buried a deep three-pointer. Barnstable established a lead but it was Silvestri who kept her Blue Knights in the hunt by going 4-4 from the free throw line as time ticked away, and then buried a bucket to tie it up at 37-37 and send the game into overtime.
Only Crawley could score for Barnstable in the overtime frame. Whittle buried a three-pointer and a field goal to go along with Silvestri’s four free throws. Barnstable’s 8th grade power forward Carly Whiteside pulled down 13 rebounds and added five points while junior center Megan Dombrowski hauled in 9 rebounds.

Shannon Mosher went 4-6 from the free throw line in the third quarter of last night’s 46-43 Sandwich High victory over Barnstable.
