New photos: Fire heavily damages house in Falmouth


FALMOUTH – A fire heavily damaged a two-story house in Falmouth. The call at 315 Gifford Street came in about 1:50 AM. The fire apparently started in the basement and spread up through the walls. Two alarms were struck to bring manpower to the scene and cover the Falmouth fire stations. The occupants escaped safely and no injuries were reported.

Falmouth Fire-Rescue reports that at approx 1:30 Sunday morning, FFRD units were dispatched to a building fire on Gifford Street. First arriving crews found smoke and fire showing from a basement level apartment, rapidly extending to the upper floor. A second alarm was quickly struck bringing additional apparatus to the scene. The fire was eventually controlled with no injuries to the occupants. Thanks to the Mashpee, Bourne, Sandwich, Cotuit and Joint Base FD’s for assistance at the scene and for providing station coverage. The fire is under investigation, believed to be accidental.
