Festival of Arab & Middle Eastern Cinema Returning to Cape Cod

CHATHAM – The fourth edition of the Cape Cod Festival of Arab & Middle Eastern Cinema returns this spring.

Brewster resident Rebecca Alvin presents the biennial film festival which features works by filmmakers from the Arab World, the Middle East and the Arab diaspora.

The festival runs from May 4-7 at a number of venues across the Lower Cape.

An opening night reception will be held at the Chatham Orpheum Theater and other screenings will be held at Wellfleet Preservation Hall, along with a closing night screening in Provincetown.

The festival started as a way to expand the knowledge and appreciation of films not often seen in movie theaters and has brought films, filmmakers and scholars to Cape Cod audiences to foster cross cultural understanding.

The festival takes on added significance this year with the recent debate over a travel ban from majority Muslim countries issued by President Donald Trump.

The opening and closing night films will be announced Wednesday and the full slate of events is expected to be announced by the end of the month.

Tickets will go on sale March 27.
