HYANNIS – A coalition of environmental organizations in Massachusetts is supporting new legislation to establish a state conservation fund.

The proposed bill would allocate a portion of sales tax revenue from sporting goods toward the preservation of forests, farmland, and waterways.

According to Mass Audubon, the measure could raise approximately $100 million annually.

Much of Cape Cod draws its revenue from its environment, with the National Seashore contributing almost $550 million dollars to the local economy.
