NHA Receives Grant for Assisted Listening Devices at Whaling Museum

nantucket harborNANTUCKET – Those who are hearing impaired will now have a better experience while visiting the Whaling Museum on Nantucket.

The Nantucket Historical Association recently received a grant from the Tupancy-Harris Foundation to support assisted listening technology at the museum.

The museum has been a handicap-accessible facility since its inception in 2005 and the new grant will allow the NHA to further serve the needs of visitors who suffer from some degree of hearing loss.

The funds from the grant will cover the FM system, receivers, and headphones along with the installation costs.

The devices, which can be worn as headsets or around the neck, can be used with compatible personal hearing devices such as hearing aids and implants.

“An increasing number of our guests to the museum have suggested that we offer this important technology, and we couldn’t agree more,” said Nantucket Historical Association Gosnell Executive Director Bill Tramposch. “We are very grateful to the Tupancy-Harris Foundation for their support and for all they do for non-profit organizations on Nantucket.”

Visitors may borrow the assisted listening devices at the Whaling Museum for programs and presentations by asking a visitor services representative at the museums front desk.
