SANDWICH – Sandwich residents will decide whether to approve an additional $600,000 in community preservation funds for the Town Neck beach re-nourishment project.

Voters will consider that proposal and five other warrant articles at Special Town Meeting tonight, beginning at 7 at Sandwich High School.

The Community Preservation Committee has approved the $600,000 appropriation after projected costs for the re-nourishment came in higher than expected. Selectmen approved the request last month.

The town also plans to use a $1 million state grant for the project, which would take dredged sand from the Cape Cod Canal and place it on the beach, which is threatened by erosion. Voters originally approved $1 million in CPA funding for the project earlier this year.

Voters will also consider a non-binding petition article related to the controversial Aerial Adventure Park at Heritage Museums and Gardens. Neighbors argue that the park is in violation of the Old King’s Highway Act and should not have been constructed because they were left out of discussions on the park’s construction.

Residents will also consider a $250,000 appropriation for the fire department for supplies and a new ambulance, $70,000 in repairs for the Sandwich Hollows Golf Club, a zoning change to allow for the construction of a community solar farm off Tupper Road. Voters will also be asked to accept $74,000 in state education aid.
