BARNSTABLE – Last month proved to be a good month for the housing market in Barnstable County.
The volume of sales last month was up nearly 13 percent from December 2013. That increase in activity resulted in a slight uptick in sales volume for 2014 overall.
“You want to see the volume out there as a general rule because it means there’s an active market,” said Barnstable County Register of Deeds Jack Meade. “I was happy to see a strong finish and with any hope that’s a harbinger for what’s going to happen in 2015.”
The total value of sales last month was up 26.7 percent from December 2013.
Meade said the numbers are slightly skewed as December 2013 was a down month, but says last month was strong nonetheless.
For 2014 as a whole, sales value was up 7.5 percent, with a 0.2 percent increase in volume of sales. There was a 21 percent drop in foreclosures on the Cape last year.
