ORLEANS – “Tom Brady” has been swimming off the coast of Cape Cod in recent days.
But we’re not talking about the Super Bowl champion quarterback who spent the summer battling the NFL in the “Deflategate” controversy.
This Tom Brady is a 13-foot male shark that was tagged off Orleans Thursday on the day the real Brady was vindicated by a federal judge. The court reversed the quarterback’s four-game suspension in the ball-deflating drama that’s been playing out for months.
The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy tagged two sharks off Orleans Thursday and decided to name one of them “Brady” in honor of the quarterback’s legal victory.
The two sharks tagged that day bring the total number of tagged sharks this summer to 16.
The conservancy has been working with state shark expert Dr. Greg Skomal this summer off the coast of Cape Cod.
They tagged four sharks last Monday, a record for one day.
