EASTHAM – The Town of Eastham Police Department recently completed installation and training on a new, state of the art, live scan fingerprinting machine. This technology allows officers to fingerprint arrestees and within minutes have returned queries from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and State of Massachusetts. The responses from these agencies confirm the arrestee’s identity, as well provide a detailed record of the arrestee’s criminal history. This machine is also utilized while registering sex offenders, processing firearms licensing applications, and conducting background investigations on potential law enforcement employees. The device was obtained at no cost to the Town of Eastham as the approximate $25,000 for the equipment, installation, and training was paid for completely by a grant obtained by the Eastham Police Department.
