FALMOUTH – The East Falmouth man police say shot a cat with an arrow earlier this month will be arraigned in Falmouth District Court on February 10.

Joseph Losi, 29, of Pinecrest Beach Drive in East Falmouth will be charged with animal cruelty, maiming a domestic animal, and improper storage of a firearm.

He allegedly shot the cat because he believed it was harassing his Bob White quail. The 13-year-old cat, named Cuday, was rushed to Buzzards Bay Veterinary Clinic to have the arrow removed. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Police first became aware of the incident on January 8 when a resident of Sidewinder Drive in East Falmouth reported finding a cat in his yard in distress suffering with an arrow through its body.

Charles Martinsen, who is Deputy Director of the Falmouth Department of Marine and Environmental Services, and Officer Alec Turner, began an investigation of the incident after being notified by Falmouth Police.

On January 10, Martinsen, along with officers from the Falmouth Police Department, executed a search warrant at 153 Pinecrest Beach Drive, East Falmouth.

During the search, police seized arrows, bows, firearms and other evidence from the house.

Police say Losi  confessed to shooting an arrow into the cat because he believed the animal was feral and was harassing his quail from the outside of a coup on his property.

Cuday, according to Martinsen, will require follow up veterinary procedures to address a remaining arrow fragment in his body and to ensure his full recovery.
